The city of Guilin, China is named for a "forest of (sweet) osmanthus." The word "lin" translates to forest in Mandarin. Osmanthus (Osmanthus fragrans) is a native shrub whose flowers are used to flavor tea. The flowers vary in color. The flavor extract is typically taken from the gold-orange flower variety.
