The Leaves

A simple process takes place once leaves are plucked. The women carry large baskets on their backs that hold the leaves they've picked. When their basket is full, they carry it to a central area where they are placed into another basket and weighed. Their pay is according to weight and equals about $1.50 per day (US funds). After their leaves are weighed and recorded by a foreman, the women pack them into mesh bags that are then transported to the tea factory where they are dried and processed.
