Fourth day in Provence

Sunny Saturday in Sanary. Around the music kiosk, we make our market visit for a market pick-of-the-day menu! We choose to stroll along the port beyond the sea urchins in search of local fish. The fishing boats are lined up and the fish is being unloaded ... oh, but what can we buy, everything is so fresh and tempting? The small stands are set right in front of the fishing boat and they sell the catch of the day.
One was the rare murena, an ugly carnivore snake like fish that can bite very meanly (the one here still had a fish in its mouth, half eaten!!!).Another one a selection of merlu (also called colin). This mixture of small fishes is ideal for the soupe de poisson or fish soup. There are large calamari that we can cut in pieces, cook, and serve with a tomato based sauce. There are also small bonitos that shine with their silver color bodies.I admire the grenadins, these coral color fishes in different sizes.
You'll discover tomorrow what we chose!
We also bought "cardes", a Mediterrannean vegetable that I have never tried.
