A beautiful gift

When I visited my friend Jamini in Pittsburgh last October I saw, among the many beautiful things she has in her house, a great collection of antique silver spoons displayed in "spoon glasses" on her dining room cabinet.

Each one was a piece of fine art and they were all different!
When I inquired, she told me that they came mostly from her grandaunt and grandmother. She explained to me that they used to be presented in the crystal spoon glasses she had them in, and when friends came for tea and cakes, each person would help him/herself a spoon from one of the glasses.
The day I left she had wrapped a beautiful teaspoon in gift paper and gave it to me as a present.

I was in tears. Little did she know that she was giving me much more than friendship and a silver spoon! She was giving me, in difficult times, ... shall I say "something to look forward to"?
In the many feelings I put in this "something to look forwrad to" I shall share with you a few.
I have a complete Christophle silver ware set for 12: Table knife, forks, spoons and serving pair, dessert set, and fish set. Altogether over 100 pieces. I build it it little by little and do not use it as often as I should, but I use it. The model is ARIA, a modern design I fell in love with when I arrived in France .. and later I bought.

While in China, I had boxes made for all of my silverware.

I always thought I would give my daughter Celine (she likes to cook, to eat, and to entertain). But what could I give my other daughter? Jamini gave me this brillant idea to create a set for 6 with antique solid silver spoons, and forks, all different .. oh, yes, this will suit Aurea very well! She loves to recylce instead of buying new, she likes deconstructed things, and has a taste for refined yet simple things.
Jamini also gave a pretext to wander in the many Paris brocantes! I often go, aimless, because I do not feel like buying anything (I have too many things already as it is!). Now I have a goal!So far, I have these pieces: Top left:

> fork and spoon set traditionally given to babies at birth. Old friends of Jean Louis' from the time he lived in Senegal gave Marielaure these.

> Persian silver goblet with 6 silver moka spoons

> a sterling silver Ercuis little spoon given to Marielaure at birth.

> my purchase at the brocante last week: a 19 C solid silver teaspoon.

> Jamini's Christmas beautiful gift.

> a solid silver sort of round spoon I bought in Istanbul in December

> Jamini's teaspoon that started this collection

> a shovel spoon from Peru

> a 19 C solid silver fork

> an art deco silver fork artist and friend Marie K Verbois gave Marielaure for Christmas.
