While in Loire Valley visiting good friends, we tasted a 1966 Savennières, that came straight from his amazing collection of Loire wines. What a delight! A nectar kept for 41 years in our friend's troglodyte wine cellar. Perfect. Look at the color! Savennières is a wine appelation but as often happens with wine in France, it is also the name of a village. There are only about 140 hectares of vineyards around the village planted with 100% of the grapes of the variety "chenin blanc".
